The Ilanga Day Care Centre for Children is based in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia. Ilanga is not only caring after children, but also empowering their single mothers to become economically independent.
Our aim is, to promote and facilitate the holistic welfare and development of vulnerable children and empower vulnerable single mothers to become economic independent.

We from BUKAYA are particularly attracted to Ilanga because of its focus on sustainability and long-term impact, and to empower local staff to lead the organisation on site in caring for vulnerable children and helping their mothers achieve economic independence.
Background
Ilanga was founded by Annemarie Geurts several years ago. Ilanga provides day care for single mothers to leave their children between the ages of 1 and 4 while they work. The children are cared for during the day, given a warm meal, and prepared for school. In addition, Ilanga selects women to provide them with training for starting a small business or vocational training. After the participation in a program, the women may join the Alumni Community. The after-school care aims to support the children's academic careers and provide them with the best opportunities.
